<image:title>Notes from the Land Trust (in Nor Cal) - An Academy for Saving the World - CaLPA has been a tool for me to quickly understand how some very complex processes work.</image:title>
<image:caption>An intensive week of training is a great way to dive in and a rotation of speakers including appraisers, lawyers, and staff from national organizations delivered information straight from the source. The kind of knowledge that comes from 20 years of experience was being delivered directly to me. I left with a full head and notebook and have since been referencing what I learned in that training extensively in my work on NCRLT new and upcoming projects.</image:caption>

<image:title>Notes from the Land Trust (in Nor Cal) - Introducing NCRLT’s Stewardship Manager, Kim Armstrong - We couldn’t be more thrilled to introduce the newest addition to the NCRLT professional team - Kim Armstrong! Kim started mid-August in the Stewardship Manager role, shepherding all current aspects of the program, from annual monitoring of current easements and fee title properties to public outreach on our preserves and special events. Our team is still lean, but we are much mightier with Kim’s talent, experience, and authentic passion and commitment to conservation.</image:title>
<image:caption>Most exciting is that Kim will play a key role in building capacity for Restoration and Land Recovery with partner landowners, whether privately held for agricultural or forested purposes, your land trust will assist with planning, funding, and implementing stewardship activities that range from fuels-reduction projects to wildlife-friendly infrastructure to watershed restoration and enhancement. You’ll surely see her soon out on the trail, or at an upcoming outreach event. Until then, here is a bit more about Kim, in her own words!</image:caption>

<image:title>Notes from the Land Trust (in Nor Cal) - Family Day on the Ranch 2025 was HOT!</image:title>
<image:caption>Our first Family Day on the Ranch, in 2024 started with unexpected rain, arriving in BIG DROPS early Saturday morning. Extreme heat accompanied our second Family Day, held at Abbey of New Clairvaux on the Saturday prior to Labor Day weekend. That’s farming! Our festivities were held just off the banks of Deer Creek, a bit northwest of the Abbey’s church building. Guests strolled through the educational booths, learned to fly-cast, practiced their casting skills, and wee ones cast to a “fishing booth” covered with local wildlife photos, showcasing the animals one might find in the creek nearby. It wasn’t the largest crowd, and it wasn’t the best day spent in the field, yet we learned, played, and experienced the splendor of this working ranch, permanently protected in conservation easement.</image:caption>

<image:caption>While May 20-21 is busy in Chico due to graduation festivities, twenty lucky hikers escaped up highway 32 to discover wildflower diversity, in community, along the Deer Creek Trail. A California Native Plant Society (CNPS) partnership makes this annual hike focused on wildflower identification a special treat, with leaders David Popp and Marjorie McNairn, both active in the Mt. Lassen CNPS Chapter. Two groups minimized disturbances, and allowed botanical enthusiasts to spend time keying individuals to species. Register for our next hike on Sunday, June 25th with California Department of Fish and Wildlife, focusing on Salmon and the fish ladder.</image:caption>

<image:title>News - Power in Nature Coalition visits Sacramento</image:title>
<image:caption>NCRLT gathered with the Power in Nature Coalition on April 19th in Sacramento to call for action from legislators. Community groups, conservation organizations, land trusts, and Native American Tribes in every part of California are working hard to protect California’s lands and waters so future generations can enjoy nature. California’s 30×30 effort was launched with Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-82-20, which called for a plan to protect 30% of California’s lands and coastal waters by 2030. The goal aligns with a climate-science driven global 30×30 campaign to protect nature all around the world to avoid an extinction crisis. California’s efforts are unique in that it centers this goal in equity, biodiversity, and climate. NCRLT’s Executive Director Cynthia Perrine attended a Rally representing all of California’s ecoregions, then engaged legislative staffers in dialogue about the importance of state funding for conservation projects that protect land in perpetuity. Cynthia’s group included representatives from WildCoast, Audubon, Azul, CalTrout, California Native Plant Society, and Sacred Lands, Native Hands. Seen here is our group with Asm. Dawn Addis, who represents District 30.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Join the staff of the Northern California Regional Land Trust for a fascinating interview with one of our partner landowners. We talk land management challenges, why a Conservation Easement was a good tool for his family to achieve their land protection goals, and what inspires him to continue restoring the natural resources on the beautiful swath of the Little Chico Creek Canyon that he calls home.</image:caption>

      <image:title>News - Celebrating 5,668 additional acres protected.</image:title>
<image:caption>Since 1990, the Northern California Regional Land Trust has been helping landowners and communities to save what they love: the wide open skies, rugged natural landscapes, and deeply rooted agricultural heritage that make the North State a wonderful place to live. Despite the challenges of operating during a global pandemic, Land Trust staff successfully closed escrow on an expansive conservation easement that has been in the works for over 15 years.</image:caption>

      <image:title>News - Let’s find wonder in nature again.</image:title>
<image:caption>This holiday season, our wish for you and your loved ones is that you would rediscover a sense of wonder at the natural world around us. That you would find a reason for optimism as life resurges beneath our feet and in the canopy above. From the delicate blades of grass pushing through the straw that blankets the hills to the swelling buds on bare branches, winter is a time of promise. There is a brighter future ahead.</image:caption>

      <image:title>News - Why land protection matters.</image:title>
<image:caption>These are strange times to work in conservation. It is easy to lose sight of the long game, to feel like this work isn't relevant enough, with so many pressing needs and uncertainties competing for our attention. We want to take a moment to share what motivates our Board and staff to continue working toward land protection across our region, even on the hardest days.</image:caption>

      <image:title>News - We are grateful for you.</image:title>
<image:caption>Together, we have conserved over 30,000 acres across the North State since 1990, and will protect an additional 7,000 acres by next summer. More than 20 farms and ranches have been permanently sheltered from development, and can be handed down to future generations as viable livelihoods. Over 600 acres of wild land are in the process of being opened up to greater public access and recreation.</image:caption>

<image:title>Your Support is Capital - Your Oak Woodland gift grows a 35-year conservation legacy</image:title>
<image:caption>As we prepare prospective projects for conservation protections, funding gaps call for matching funds. Oak woodland lands are already greatly diminished, with recent catastrophic wildfires impacting thousands of acres more. Protecting the remaining oak woodlands improve watershed health, groundwater recharge, and wildlife connectivity. Our Capital Campaign goal is to raise $750,000 toward the opportunity to purchase in fee title or conservation agreement perpetual protections of key oak woodland properties, especially those contributing to connectivity.</image:caption>

<image:title>Your Support is Capital - Salt of the Earth supported time to write a successful 30x30 grant in support of NCRLT acquisitions!</image:title>
<image:caption>When the California Council of Land Trusts announced this DOC block grant opportunity, NCRLT’s growing pile of prospective projects were in process thanks to a DOC Capacity Grant funding our part-time conservation director. CCLT’s award takes that role full-time, and develops talented and proficient conservation acquisitions support. Your support of essential tasks is critical for NCRLT to maintain a long track-record of successful, impactful grant-writing for thoughtful research and partnership building! Thank YOU!</image:caption>

<image:title>Your Support is Capital - Thank you for helping to establish a conservation agreement for Abbey of our Lady of New Clairvaux, protecting it in perpetuity!</image:title>
<image:caption>The Abbey of New Clairvaux is one of the most unique agricultural properties in the North State producing tomatoes, prunes, and walnuts in addition to there award-winning wine grapes. This project was the most extensive conservation easement NCRLT had the privilege to work on in our 33 year history! Your support established the project, and DOC SALC funding supported work to create the legally-binding, voluntary agreement, and purchased the easement that protects this gem in perpetuity. You made a difference!</image:caption>
