May 11, 2026 - Take a Hike series: A Walk with the California Native Plant Society

The Northern California Regional Land Trust is excited to welcome the public to the botanical marvels of Deer Creek Preserve. Led by the Land Trust staff, along with our partner guides, Marjorie McNairn and Robert Fischer, from Mt. Lassen Chapter of CNPS, this annual tradition accommodates all levels of interest and prior experience with California's flora, as we slowly wind into the interior of the Preserve identifying and photographing plants along the trailside, before returning along the same route, offering participants the opportunity to revisit paths less traveled, learn about and name most of the wildflowers and plants we observe, and to enjoy beautiful canyon views.

June 6, 2026 - 5th Annual Paradise Grazing Festival by Butte County Fire Safe Council

NCRLT will be tabling at the 5th Annual Paradise Grazing Festival! This is a super fun, FREE event put on by our long time partners, the Butte County Fire Safe Council! Here’s a description of the event from their website!

“A celebration of stewardship, resilience, and community in action! Bring the whole family for a fun-filled day exploring how targeted grazing reduces wildfire risk, restores healthy landscapes, and protects the places we call home. Meet local ranchers and land stewards, connect with community partners, watch live demonstrations, learn about grazing cooperatives, and enjoy delicious food, live music, and hands-on activities for all ages. Together, we’re shining a light on local, land-based solutions that strengthen wildfire prevention efforts and build long-term community resilience across Butte County and beyond. Come be part of the movement. Celebrate stewardship. Support local solutions. We can’t wait to see you there!”

Northern California Regional Land Trust will host our 2026 annual Harvest Dinner on October 10th. More details to come!

 

TBD, 2026 - Stewardship Summit: Learning from the Land

Northern California Regional Land Trust is convening a Stewardship Summit for peer-to-peer learning from the land. Invited land managers will share stories from projects and properties located throughout our service area of Butte, Glenn, Tehama, Plumas, and Shasta Counties.

April 18, 2026 - California Tree School

The Northern California Regional Land Trust will be tabling at the Butte Session of CA Tree School hosted in Paradise! Saturday April 18, 2026, 8 AM-5:30 PM at Paradise High School. If you plan to attend, you can find us during the 12:30-1:30 tabling/ lunch break! A collaboration between UC Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Butte County Fire Safe Council bringing a" “unique one-day forestry and fire learning event for the community at large. Come take skill-focused and knowledge-building classes led by UC academics and local natural resource professionals. Get to know fellow nature enthusiasts in your community and the organizations working to improve the health and resiliency of California’s forests.”

April 17, 2026 - Take a Hike series: Phenology I

Our 2026 Take-a-Hike series has begun! The Northern California Regional Land Trust is excited to welcome the public to the Deer Creek Preserve for our Phenology I Hike, a hike for us to get a lay of the land after winter has concluded. Led by Land Trust Staff, this hike will start from the trailhead on Highway 32 and follow Deer Creek downstream into the canyon. We will walk where we can, watching the water level and being conscious of downed trees. Let’s get outside and find some cool things! All levels of experience are welcome!

April 4, 2026 - Wildflower and Nature Festival at Riverbend Park, Oroville

The Northern California Regional Land Trust, in collaboration with the Chico Area Flyfishers, will be tabling at the Wildflower and Nature Festival put on by the Feather River Recreation and Park District! This is a FREE event occurring on Saturday, April 4th from 10:00 am-4:00 pm at Riverbend Park, 50 Montgomery St, Oroville, CA. Always falling on the first Saturday of April, this family friendly festival highlights local goods and natural resources through vendors, drinks, food trucks, river kayak tours, live music, and children’s crafts! Come say hi, join a flyfishing demonstration, and enjoy the festival with us!

March, 2026 - Christian’s Cranes at Llano Seco featured at LaRocca Tasting Room

The stunning mural Cranes at Llano Seco by local artist Christian Garcia, painted LIVE during our 2025 Harvest Dinner, has taken a long journey. From their first flight at Llano Seco, to monca, then the NCRLT office…these beautiful cranes have now landed at LaRocca Tasting Room where they will perch through the month of March! Christian's completed piece, painted across two stretched canvases, will be able to be bid on by NCRLT community members during our 2026 Love YOUR Land Silent Auction, beginning its Lift Off on March 13th during our Special Reception at LaRocca Tasting Room!

March 27, 2026 - (EcoTour) The Ephemeral Wonders of Meridian Ranch

This guided walking tour invites you to explore the rare and ephemeral beauty of vernal pools—seasonal wetlands that burst into bloom with unique and colorful wildflowers. As you stroll through the grasslands, you'll learn about the ecology, history, and conservation of this sensitive habitat. Guided by NCRLT staff and Westervelt Ecological Services, experience vernal pools and wildflower viewing that may include sightings of listed and endemic vernal pool invertebrates! Includes a locally sourced picnic with beverages.

March 23, 2026 | 4:30pm - NCRLT 37th Anniversary Open House and Silent Auction Close / Item Pick-up

Northern California Regional Land Trust is hosting an open house to celebrate the first day of our 37th year! Come visit our office at 30 Independence Circle, Suite 100, Chico to learn about what we’ve been up to and what we have planned! We will have light appetizers and local beverages available. It is also here that our NCRLT 2026 Silent Auction Love YOUR Land, featuring Christian Garcia's Cranes mural, will conclude! Bidders need not be present to win.

March 13, 2026 - Love Your Land Lift Off Reception and Member Renewal Launch 

Northern California Regional Land Trust will be hosting a special reception at LaRocca Tasting Room at 5pm! We will be initiating the Lift Off of our long awaited Love YOUR Land Silent Auction and Member Renewal Launch! Our most exciting item, Christian Garcia’s Cranes at Llano Seco, will be on display at LaRocca through the month of March. Come see the painting up close and in person during the reception. Stay for a drink, some tasty hors d'oeuvres, and fantastic company!

March 13, 2026 - (EcoTour) Birding, Blue Oaks and Lunch at C&R Ranch

The Eklands invite you to their holistically managed working cattle ranch next spring. Nestled in the oak woodland foothills, this tour offers a chance to explore vibrant ecosystems, learn about sustainable ranching practices, and observe a variety of bird species in their natural habitat. A UTV tour guided by Eklands and NCRLT staff with short walks to birding sites, vistas, and historical cultural markers. Includes coffee, tea, and snacks at the beginning of the tour, and a locally sourced lunch at the end of the tour!

A peer-to-peer discussion FOR the stewardship community BY the stewardship community!Come gather at our office to hear the latest update on wolves in California from the Statewide Gray Wolf Coordinator for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

A peer-to-peer discussion FOR the stewardship community BY the stewardship community! Join us while we learn about product stewardship and the role the California Product Stewardship Council is playing to lesson the impact of a multitude of end-of-life products on local governments and our environment.

January 22-25, 2026- Snow Goose Festival of the Pacific Flyway

Winter birds are back in the northern Sacramento Valley and gathering in the thousands! The Pacific Flyway is a migratory pathway for millions of birds, across hundreds of species from sandhill cranes to geese and ducks of all kinds! Participate in this spectacular 4-day event full of field trips for all experience types, informative workshops, family activities, and other events. The Northern California Regional Land Trust is excited to lead two hikes during the festival! Join us for “Lower Deer Creek Natural History & New Clairvaux Winery,” and “Exploring West of the Five & Raging Bull Winery.” NCRLT will also be tabling during the free exhibitor event on Jan. 24-25, so please stop by to chat and learn more about our organization. Saturday, October 18, 2025: Harvest Dinner & Celebration of Conserved Lands

Northern California Regional Land Trust and leading sponsor Llano Seco hosts our annual Harvest Dinner on October 11th at Llano Seco Ranch. This highly anticipated event showcases the best of our service region's local products, offered a tantalizing, farm-to-fork feast to delight the taste buds, and allows guests to mingle and enjoy cocktails made from locally-produced spirits, fall brews, and local wines. Guests will enjoy live music and the preview of our 2026 Ecotours, first sign-ups available for attendees! Learn more about conservation and stewardship operations, while mingling with guests, sponsors, and volunteers - and celebrate Richard “Dick” Thieriot’s conservation legacy.

September 28, 2025 - Take a Hike Series: Salmon in the Sierra

The Northern California Regional Land Trust is excited to welcome the public to the Deer Creek Preserve to learn about the salmon populations in this tributary to the Sacramento River as part of the Take a Hike event series. This hike will wind into the interior of the Preserve to the fish ladder before returning along the same route, offering participants the opportunity to expand their understanding of the lifecycle of migratory fish in Sierran watersheds, and to learn about other species that call Deer Creek home.

August 23, 2025 - Family Day on Abbey Ranch

The Northern California Regional Land Trust and our hosts, the brothers of the Abbey of our Lady of New Clairvaux , are excited to welcome you to Abbey Ranch. Come enjoy this FREE fun filled day. Practice fly-casting with Chico Area Flyfishers, compete in a bait-casting competition, and compete as a team against others in our field games. Take a tour with the Ranch Manager to see what the monks have planted this year, and learn more about ongoing and historic conservation efforts. Picnics welcome in the shade of oaks. June 8, 2025 - Take a Hike Series: Birds of Deer Creek with Altacal Bird Alliance

In partnership with the Altacal Bird Alliance, the Northern California Regional Land Trust is excited to welcome the public to the Deer Creek Preserve for a morning of birding as part of the Take a Hike event series. Led by local birder and retired CSU biology instructor, Shelly Kirn, this hike will wind into the interior of the Preserve toward the fish ladder before returning along the same route, offering participants the opportunity to hone their bird identification skills as well as beautiful canyon views. All levels of experience welcome. Hope you will join us for a fun day of birding!

May 5, 2025 - Take a Hike Series: Wildflowers with California Native Plant Society

May 3, 2025 - NCRLT’s 35th Anniversary Celebration

We held a wonderful Celebration of YOUR Land Trust! Since our founding on March 22, 1990, as Parks and Preserves, NCRLT has conserved 40,985 acres, forever protecting vibrant working landscapes and untamed wilderness in the North State. Celebrate with us at this open-house style event! Stop by any time between 2 p.m.- 6 p.m. Registration is free!

Our 35th Anniversary celebration is kicking off our member and supporter recognition program. Your contributions make it possible to protect land you love, forever! And, if you become a member or supporter of Your Land Trust prior to or at the event, you can pick-up your brand-new, limited-edition logo item!

April 27, 2025 - Wildflower Century Hike

Wildflower Century Weekend is coming up and The Northern California Regional Land Trust is excited to welcome the public to the Deer Creek Preserve to enjoy spring bloom as part of the Take a Hike event series. Led by Land Trust Staff, this hike will start from the trailhead on Highway 32 and follow Deer Creek downstream into the canyon. We will follow the water to the fish ladder within the preserve before returning on the same route. Plants are in bloom along Deer Creek! It’s the best time of year to get out and admire Mother Nature’s jewelry. Get excited to learn about different flowering plant species and what they need to thrive in this forested landscape. This time of year, we can expect to see Violets, Lupines, Iris, Monkeyflowers, and more. If we’re lucky, my personal favorite Fritillaria recurva, or the Scarlet Fritillary, will be in bloom. All levels of plant knowledge and experience are welcome, this is a great opportunity to learn and see new things!

April 13, 2025 - Take a Hike Series: Spring in the Sierra, Phenology I

The Northern California Regional Land Trust is excited to welcome the public to the Deer Creek Preserve to enjoy spring bloom as part of the Take a Hike event series. Led by Land Trust Staff, this hike will start from the trailhead on Highway 32 and follow Deer Creek downstream into the canyon. We will follow the water to the fish ladder within the preserve before returning on the same route. Phenology is the study of seasonal change so we will be looking at how the land is waking up from its winter slumber and enjoying all the new life of spring! This will be the general theme of the hike, but we’ll also observe the stunning geological formations of the area and learn about the importance of the Deer Creek Preserve as critical wildlife habitat and a future wildfire buffer.

Thursday-Sunday , January 23-26, 2025: Snow Goose Festival of the Pacific Flyway

The Pacific Flyway is the migratory pathway for millions of birds, across hundreds of species and it’s practically in our backyard! The Snow Goose Festival of the Pacific Flyway celebrates this magnificent spectacle of nature by offering 4 days of fields trips, workshops, and many other events. The Northern California Regional Land Trust is excited to be a sponsor and exhibitor for this festival. NCRLT will be at the Patrick Ranch Museum from 9am-4pm on Saturday, January 27th and Sunday, January 28th for the FREE exhibitor and family event, so please stop by to chat and learn more about our organization. Saturday, October 12, 2024: Harvest Dinner & Celebration of Conserved Lands

Northern California Regional Land Trust and leading sponsor Chuck Horning hosted our annual Harvest Dinner on October 12th at Eagle Creek Ranch. This highly anticipated event showcased the best of our service region's local products, offered a tantalizing, farm-to-fork feast to delight the taste buds, and allowed guests to mingle and enjoy cocktails made from locally-produced Almendra spirits and Secret Trail Brewery fall brews. Los Coyotes band provided live music and the live auction raised $25K for conservation and stewardship operations. We are grateful to all guests, sponsors, and volunteers - especially our board of directors and Lands’ Committee attendees!

The Northern California Regional Land Trust final Stewardship Roundtable summer series is Drones. We will gather at Secret Trail Brewing Company to discuss and learn about drone technology. This FREE event is open to all. NCRLT staff will present on the the important role drones can play during monitoring season at the Land Trust. The goal for this event is to convene land trust stewards with or without conservation easement to learn about the work and tech our stewardship staff use during monitoring season, and how it makes our monitoring more efficient.

The Northern California Regional Land Trust is excited to welcome the public to one of our newest conservation easements in Vina, California. Our hosts are the current stewards of this property. We will gather at Secret Trail Brewing Company to discuss and learn about remote monitoring technology. This FREE event is open to all. The Northern California Regional Land Trust is excited to announce the first of our summer series Stewardship Roundtable: Rangeland Soil Health. We will gather at Secret Trail Brewing Company to discuss and learn about the healthy soil practices. This FREE event is open to all. We will converse about case studies and region-specific aspects of applying such techniques. NCRLT staff will also present on funding assistance for implementing new soil health practices on your land. The goal for this event is to convene land trust stewards with or without conservation easement to learn about and share their knowledge of, rangeland soils health. Bring stories and lessons from your land!
